I learn about the rocket stove mechanism after I have already installed a nice soapstone wood burning stove that has secondary burning tubes in it. Nice, but lot of heat is lost in the chimney. I am thinking disconnecting the stove outlet tube from the chimney and then connect it to a "rocket" mechanism put next to it, and have the outlet tube of the rocket connect back to the chimney. Do you think it would work? I think it should although I think I need to install a removable fan to create the draft (between the rocket and the chimney) when I start a fire. Once it gets going, then remove the fan and cover the tube back.
Any thoughts at all?
I was thinking the same thing. It should work. Maybe you wouldn't need a fan to get the draft going, just blow on it to get it started. Especially if the chimney pipe is long enough, there should be a draft anyway. (?) The combustion chamber could be right on top of the stove using the existing first few feet of stove pipe and have a T pipe come out the bottom of the side and straight through the wall to an outside chimney. Water heating pipe could be installed in the combustion chamber as an option. Bricks could be arranged inside filling the firebox to create a rocket stove inside with the door closed. Excellent idea I think.
