I am planning on stick frame. I will be doing most of the work myself with some options for help with occasional two man jobs. I am shooting for a structure of around $8,000 or so. Plus all the fixtures, power and such will be additional. Cheaper is better, but cuts out what you get for it.

Thanks for your input. I thought about doing that, but want the house to be one area. The design for the 14x14 house would have a wall in the middle if I built two, or I would have to rework the design. That shouldn't be too hard, just extend it.

I have been playing with floorplans trying to figure out how tight I can pack it all in while still being functional and not have an unhappy wife for the next few years. I don't think I have to have twice the space, but just one 14x14 building will not work. I think I will look at just extending it, 14x20 or so.

I want to build my own small house. I looked at the e-book from Lamar on the 14' x 14' house but I think the 14 x 14 will be too small for my family so I'm looking for something larger. I have also been searching for more info, but haven't found what seems right for us. Do you guys know of any good reference material with the level of info like that e-book? I know enough to do something fairly simple like this and already have land and a bunch of tools. I just want to make sure I build something safe for my family to live in.
