There is a kickstarter going on that many of us permies can get behind. White Bull Farm & Regenerative Agriculture Design
is nothing like most dairies. This new farm is an incredible example of compassion toward animals and permaculture design. Please consider supporting them. Their rewards are amazing! And don't forget to share the campaign with others, especially those in Maine. (I am in no way affiliated with the farm, the following is directly from the Kickstarter campaign)
About this project
We are a brand new, family-owned farm located in Pittsfield, Maine. We have been blessed with demand for our product right away. The local community truly supports local farms and wants to buy healthy product. This creates a wonderful opportunity for expansion that we had not anticipated so soon. Kickstarter has been a great blessing to farmers and farm projects all over the county. What better way to raise the capital we need, connect with the community, and build our brand than a Kickstarter campaign?
So what is this "Giant Leap"?
Our first and primary product offering is raw whole milk. We are licensed by the state of Maine to sell raw milk from the farm, at farmer's markets, in retail stores and direct to consumers. In order to safely handle milk and dairy products we must have certain equipment and facilities. Which we already do, however in order to meet the growing demand we require equipment that can handle the higher volume with speed, efficiency, and cleanliness. Last, but not least a higher demand means... yes, you guessed it... more cows. Not just any cows. One reason our milk is so delicious is because our cows are of a high genetic quality, bred for health and grazing efficiency instead of high production. In other words, we don't just go down to the sale barn and pick up a few more cows. Our cows may not produce as much milk as a traditional dairy cow, but the milk they do produce is rich, creamy, nutrient dense, and tasty.
So what do we need?
Our plan is to raise $15,000 over the next 21 days in order to purchase the following...
Portable Milking Machine made to accommodate 2 cows at once
33-Gallon Stainless Steel Chill Tank
Stainless Steel Sink
Stainless Steel Restaurant-Style Work Table
Cattle Handling Equipment
Straw, Hay & Wood Chips
We have set up 5 levels of support, and a special 6th level for a one-time donation of $2,000. If you look on the right side of the page you will see each category and its rewards outlined clearly. We realize each category has farm product vouchers listed as a reward, and that these rewards must be claimed on the farm. We understand that many of you are friends and supporters who live out of state. Do not let it stop you from joining with us! If you do live out of state, just get in touch with us via phone or email and we'll be sure to help you with an equal alternative!
Please know we are deeply grateful to all of you who continue to support us and support this kind of farming! Help us continue to provide healthy food to the community!
Risks and challenges
No business is perfect. There are obstacles and day-to-day challenges that arise. The key to longevity and resilience is long-term planning and the ability to quickly adapt. Farming is no different, if not even more challenging. There are weather changes to deal with, equipment breakdowns, paperwork, license compliance, building maintenance, and much more. We have planned for this growth and its success by getting the farm established, starting our herd, getting our licenses and permits, and building clientele BEFORE we launch this campaign. This allows us to grow as it is needed instead of as we want. The helps us save money and streamline the farm production process.
The only obstacle to this particular project is raising the funding in a timely manner, but that's why you are here. While $15,000 may seem like a large sum to raise. Think about it this way... most people have at least 100 friends on their Facebook list. If 20 of our friends got 10 of their friends to get 10 of their friends to each give $10.00 we could reach our goal! Look at it like this...
20 Friends x 10 of Their Friends = 200 People
200 People x 10 of Their Friends = 2,000 People
2,000 People x $10.00 = $20,000
Will you help us take the leap forward?
