Hello,
You mentioned in this podcast the idea of using black soldier flies in the composing toilet, which I think is a great idea. Some things things to note about black soldier flies
1. The larvae are self harvesting, meaning once they are engorged they climb up and out of their food looking for dirt to metamorphose in. So, if you build a ramp up and out of the toilet, you can collect them and bring them to another spot to turn into adults. Murray Hallam has a nice video on this
2. The adult fly stage does not eat, as in lacks the appropriate mouth parts. They only live a few days, mate, lay eggs, and die, so low probability as a disease vector
3. They do not survive prolonged periods of freezing, though they are native to parts of the Midwest. To me this necessitates at least a sun room with a few plants for habitat, to keep the life cycle going.
4. I made a design for a toilet like this a long time ago, but have never constructed it, maybe you could tweak my design to fit your needs

Anyway, I really hope you try this idea, it would be great to see some real world results!
