So we bought a gravity flow cup hog waterer (see pic below). The pigs drink from the cup but don't push the paddle in to get more water. So we go back and fill the cup, they drink from it but don't push the paddle to fill up the cup.

Any suggestions?

I have a great area that needs a pond to reduce flow speed of water and slow down erosion. However, it will mostly berun off from the neighbors conventional fields. Any thoughts? Comments?
Hi all,

Looking for some suggestions. We are looking to add around 10 cows to our farm. We live in N Mississippi so we have hot humid summers and mild winters. Our farm has great pastures and I am tired of paying to have them bush hogged, I am tired of buying beef from other farmers and it is time soon to add beef to our veggie, chicken, egg CSA. We just started our pasture raised hog herd so looking to move forward with cows too.

So we need a breed that 1)does well on pasture, 2)that produces quality tasty beef, 3)breeds/parents well, and 4)is easy to manage. Small breeds like Dexters are on the table .

What are you thoughts? Pros/cons of your breed?

Landon,

Thanks for the comments. We built tables with hardware clothe for tops. Even with that in our humid climate, especially when the weather is cool it can forever to dry stuff. We will be trying the old washer machine spin to dry real soon. Most stuff goes in the dunk tanks and I swirl it around, the root crops get blasted with a sprayer.

Im just looking for ideas as we continue to expand.

Thanks!

Hello All,

We are starting our third year and we are expanding our CSA to 45 shares. One area where we are looking to improve is wash rootcrops, greens other veggies. Currently we use two to three stock tanks to soak and rinse and hardware cloth tables for drying. Looking at an old washing machine spin cycle for drying greens.

Anyone use bubblers, swirl tanks, root washers, or other DIY ways to increase capacity or lower time?

Thanks
