Hi guys,

I live in the Cayman Islands in a little beach house.

It's south facing, and about 100 feet from the high tide line. So my back yard is sand. In the winter we get a constant breeze. The summer brings high humidity, the rainy season and flat calm days.

I'd really like to start growing some edibles. I just got 2 Jakarta mango trees, but I'm not sure if the sea air will kill them. I know they would like the soil, (sand), I'm just wondering if I should be protecting them by planting them at the front of the house.

If at the front, then they will have to go into planters, which will restrict growth and production, so I really would prefer to plant them in the back.

Any advice you could give would be great.

Also any links to info on growing edibles on beachfront property would also be much appreciated, (Very much a niche market). Coconuts and weeds grow just great, so I know there must be some degree of nutrition!

Many thanks,

Richie
