I live in the green and pleasant county of Shropshire in England. There have been countless TV debates and news reports on the recent flooding in this and other areas of the UK. Most of these heated conversations centred around building more flood defenses costing billions, and more frequent dredging of rivers because of increasing silt deposits. Not once did I hear any of these learned people ask the obvious question. Why are the rivers silting up ? Perhaps this video from Ben Falk in Vermont could throw some light on the problem. If land owners and farmers put Slow it! Spread it! Sink it! permaculture principles into practice this could go some way to solving the problem. Thoughts ?
