Hi Jeremiah, well you're right on about the handled bottles, they don't swirl very much, although I really can't imagine keeping up with a more efficient version...I am wondering though, at present, are you able to keep your water clear enough to see through to the bottom and has the upkeep surprised you or do you think maybe my system is an anomaly to a typical set up?
I've often wondered why no one has developed a filter by facilitating the valve opening on the bottom of these IBC tanks....seems like a no brainer to me but I just haven't had the time myself to work one out yet.
Btw, I have about 60-80 tilapia at present.
Good luck on your filter development, it sounds interesting.

not a pretty site, sorry.......I dumped some crustaceans into it last week but they've disappeared within the dark pool of water. They'll not lack for a job for sure, lol Not sure what DWL acronym represent...

I've not heard this subject of maintenance addressed before....Poop, yes poop....I never knew fish could poop so much! I've learned to drain the swirl filter a couple of times a day, same with my pump filter...yet the poop has gotten me on this endless treadmill of yuck.
Is there an easier way and how much time does an average, one system fish farmer, spend on daily maintenance?

I finally got the RO hooked up right but as I feared, was only able to drain in one tank full at a time....I just wasn't sure of the mechanics of the RO system....guessing it will take some time/effort, to transfer any substantial amount of RO water into my AP and figure I'll need to turn off the faucet each time to let the tank re-fill.......at any rate, and not sure why, maybe that single tank of RO, but the chemicals have improved .....PH 7.6 High PH 7.4 Ammonia 0.50ppm
Nitrate 0 ppm. Still not sure what high ph is or why I've got two separate versions of nitrate testing solution.
I've tried a variety of seeds, most do nothing, some shoot 3" sprouts and peter out, cucumber plant turned into a monster....fish are doing great

I've had my tank set up with ordinary well water, since last year.... My fish are doing fine but so far, the only thing I've been able to grow successfully were some cucumbers. All my chemistry figures are out of whack and seems I heard Nate from Agrotech recommend an RO to fix....seems also, if I am constantly adding new water to make up for evaporation, it would also need to be filtered.

It was a recommended remedy for balancing out the chemistry in my well water.....I may have figured out what the issue was anyway....

I am having a difficult time with incorporating a reverse osmosis system into my aquaponics tank successfully. Is there anyone out there who has done this and made it work....if so , how?
Thanks

Great, well I saw a short bleep somewhere on the internet and wanted to make sure that it wasn't just my imagination...

I have a vague memory of Sepp mixing all of his vegetable seeds together and just tossing them onto the ground.....I am getting ready to plant but I don't recall where I saw this video or if this is what he was actually even doing....
Can someone corroborate this method of permaculture planting and explain it better?

Must've been a coon. I trapped one last year in my yard but I've heard they don't have a keen sense of smell so I am puzzled how or why it would've climbed across and over a water filled system for a sealed bag of fish food...oh well...I'll set up a trap and see if I can catch the thief next time, ha.
