getting close here, but I want on board water/feed and electric fence stuff. And the capability to temporarily lock the pigs inside while it's being moved.

This is a google image

I read the blog about chickens with the small portable roost and feeding station and want to do that with hogs.

I have an underutilized area that stays thick and lush under a bunch of cottonwood trees. Idea is to build a "hog tractor" on skids I can tow and place with a tractor and set up hot wire around it. I basically want a pen inside of a pen, so when it's time to move I'll put some treats in the tractor and lock the pigs in then tow them to the new location and set up hot wire then open the door.

I'll use a hefty fence charger and solar panels. on board water in case I move them to an area without ground water, or winter months.

I guess I could also incorporate a shallow spot as a pond of sorts

I just found out what a hugel bed is due to this site, and now am interested in building a 300 footer along a seasonal creek.
No flow this year in the creek, but on a wetter year it'll flow pretty good. Being the creek is dry this year it'll make a good opportunity to move it, there isn't a permanent creek bed in place due to it only occasionally flowing. On a year it flows a plow makes a temporary creek bed so it doesn't flood.

The creek runs along the bottom of a south facing slope, maybe 20-25 degree slope to the north above the occasionally flowing creek. I've got all the dead cotton wood I could possibly use, and never before had a use for it other than letting it rot where it lands. Now I'm interested in cleaning it all up and making use of the wood.

I wonder if I should build the bed so the creek has to slow down, it's got a gentle grade but I could build this hugel to somewhat elevate the creek and keep the flow slower and less erosive. I'll need to stake a contour and build the bed up to it.

I'd like to plant berry's, all kinds of berry's.

I made a new garden spot today out of a very grassy area where there had never before been a garden.

1st step was rototiller it down 2 inches to break up the sod

2nd step was too scrape off the sod with the tractor bucket and pile it up to mulch, I'll re-apply it later on after the greenery has broke down.

3rd step was another rototiller

4th was apply top dressing of dark rich compost I had been saving up from a pile nearby. Mostly lawn clippings and last falls leaves mixed in with older compost, I keep the pile shrinking and growing all the time.

5th was two more passes with the rototiller going down to 6 inches.

The plot was 30 foot wide by 50 feet long. It took me almost 30 minutes.

On craigslist I see such services offered for about $75 dollars/hour. If you have someone like that close by you could have that plot done for about 100 bucks, depending on how far they'd have to travel.

Something to consider ?
