I’m sharing from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Granada the south of Spain, Mediterranean continental climate at 1000 meters altitude, zone 8.

A friend gave me some pine nut seeds 8 years ago, I planted 7 seeds, got four plants and only one of them has survived to today… the little tree is about three feet tall now and looking healthy… no cones yet, but I was told it takes about 20 years to get any production.

I turned 80 this year, so I doubt I will taste any of the nuts this tree may one day produce, but hopefully someone will… I believe that pass it forward is a great long term strategy that has the potential to regenerate land, forests, critters and people - whether we pass forward our hard work, our understanding or wonderful trees - and make our life efforts meaningful again!

This sounds and looks great, Kate! Looking forward to supporting your kickstarter...

I agree with the suggestions about a good index. The index pages of every good cookbook I´ve ever had (and I´m 75!)  always end up dog-eared for the use I give them!

Let us know when the kickstarter launches so we don´t miss it

Thanks for the heads-up for this great initiative, Cassie. Do you know if there is a plan for the film to be subtitled or dubbed in other languages? I practice and teach permaculture design in the south of Spain and would most certainly host a screening (or several) here if it can be subtitled. I would also offer to translate, if that is needed.  There is no contact link on the website, so do you have any idea how to get in touch with the people who are making this film?

Thanks,
Linda Morrison

Translations: many have said that they think their country doesn't need a translation because English is so predominant, but many more are saying that they want it: it's country specific.

We are adding edits, but Italian and Polish are finished. I will keep looking for translators; I hope to have over 10 translations at least.

Matt, if you are looking for translators in Spain (it´s quite different Spanish than in the Americas!) I have several possibilities close-by and could put you in touch. Let me know how to contact you about this if that sounds like something worthwhile...

Thumbs up to this great initiative!!! I´ve just supported it and will be looking forward to hearing more about the translations that are in progress. as I hope to be able to use and promote this text in Spain where I live!!
Thanks Matt, for your good work in permaculture education.

Thanks so much... that´s a wonderful offer!! E-mail sent....

I would enjoy trying to germinate the seeds and also see if they can grow out in my part of the world ( near the Sierra Nevada mountains in the south of Spain.)

I have just recently discovered Sepp Holzer´s work (through the Permies daily-ish emails, of course.... YAY Permies!! ) and it has already changed my way of looking at what I´m doing on my land. Videos, his book "Desert of Paradise", the permies.com forum are a huge part of my life at this time. Now this course comes along and my piggy bank is not ready for it. Well, I guess it´s just a matter of continuing to save the pennies and waiting for next year´s workshop. At any rate, thanks to Zachary Weiss for all the information about the workshop; I suspect I will be dreaming about the next one until this time next year!! I live in the south of Spain, so it won´t be quite so expensive to get to Austria from here.... I hope those who go to the workshop will post their impressions on this thread, that would be great!!
