I am in central North Carolina and have a rabbit farm. I'm a single mom and this is my full time living. This is my 2nd full year with the rabbits. At this point, I could use some help BADLY! I have an 8 acre farm that is open for ideas to make it a productive farm. Since I am only one person, there is only so much I can do at a time. Therefore, I'm looking for the perfect person to work with me. Someone interested in rabbit production and gardening with rabbit manure. Also you may be interested in growing mushrooms and/or worms with the manure. Lots of opportunities.
This is my first time searching for help and I don't have a whole lot to offer at this time. As the perfect person comes along and makes a financial difference, that will reflect on future 'raises'. So, right now, I have an apartment to offer. At this time, you will be in the apartment alone until we bring in more help that will become roommates. I am not able to pay a stipend at this time, but I can offer free rent in exchange for hours in the barn and/or on the farm. I'm looking for 12 hours per week in exchange for the rent and water bill. You will have to pay electric at this time and other services you may want, like phone, TV or internet (you may be able to share mine). If you aren't able/ready to pay for your own electric, I will entertain the idea of offering a bedroom in my own home, instead of the apartment. Use of the kitchen would be yours to share with us.
This is a growing situation and because I can't offer a stipend right now, I'm not expecting a full time work load so that you have other opportunities to work off farm while staying rent free in the apartment. 12 hours per week can be very flexible when they are done.
The job would consist of feeding, caring for the rabbits. Helping me expand with hanging new cages and putting in water lines. Shoveling manure, cleaning cages, and caring for the rabbits will be included in the work load. Organizing and working toward a 'customer showcase' barn. The barn is a older model chicken house and repairs are always being needed. Being creative and experienced with basic tools would be awesome. Also, you need to be able to lift 50+ pounds as that is what the feed comes in.
There is room on the farm to work the garden area, do raised beds, build orchards, etc. There is a lot of potential here and I need ideas, energy and excitement to have every inch of the farm working and producing.
The apartment isn't a fancy place. It has one large bedroom and another 'study' type room. Large bathroom and very small living room. Comes with washer/dryer and usual appliances. Doesn't have a/c but a window unit would completely keep it cool. Winter it is set up for gas, but many use electric heat instead.
If interested, let me know. The apartment will be ready 6/15. (unless the last renter is late moving out).
