Thanks for the links and advice. Obviously one cannot do without the cob mass, that is what absorbs the heat and releases it. I will continue to look, but will have to be creative with some "old barn" wood or something for the front of the bench, and probably make some cushions for the seat. My wife loves the "Cabinish/old authentic look, not sure that is the word, so at least I have some options. I will post some pics if this is completed this fall, I am running out of time....
