new here from san francisco, web designer/branding/marketing/artist weirdo. grew up in michigan in country, suburbs and city, the country years were the happiest days of my life. had some laying chickens, raised show rabbits, and took care of goats and horses at my aunt and uncles farm. it was the best.
finally came to the realization about a year ago that I'm just not a city girl. san francisco is wonderful, but it is too fast for me and my heart is aching to grow my own food, get back into rabbits and other livestock (as an adult! totally different experience!) and live a simpler life. I've been in learning mode for the last year as a move to the country may happen sooner than I thought - the house my partner and I rent is being sold so we are trying to find some land to rent so we can get our feet dirty.
I'm interested in off grid living, growing as much of my own food as possible (thinking drought resistant options because...well...california) and livestock (particularly fiber animals like alpaca and angora rabbits and maybe dairy goats down the line. chickens are a given, I cry a little inside every time I buy eggs because I remember the real stuff!)
also I have 4 dogs and 3 cats. people in the city think I'm insane, but the farm girl in me knows that number just needs to be rounded out with some chickens and rabbits and things that don't just eat and poo and cuddle! love my dogs, useless little leeches that they are. they are good friends.
happy to be here!
