I like your idea of community that is "something in between communal living and strict rugged-individual stuff." My wife and I homestead on a property in the mountains near State College, PA. One of our dreams is to have a homesteading neighborhood of people who are into permaculture, homesteading, food preservation, etc. We provide each other support like good neighbors have historically done but without all the baggage and pressure of doing intentional community.
