First off, kudos on your decision to undertake such a task.

Second, I would start by sectioning or partitioning the property on paper based off the physically visable areas. This would be say a open field next to a forest etc. Then take a soil sample from all area that appear common and uncommon. This would be say each subdivision plus multiple samples from a part of the field that water collects and from where it drains rapidly.

That is where I would start. That will give you definitive soil composition and mineral content from all the nodal regions. Then you can research what composts and minerals to use for what ever you choose to plant/nurture growth.

How far are you from the ocean? That can drastically change what you can grow and how it tastes/looks.

Howdy everyone. I hope everyone is landing their dream jobs and workers.

I myself am a 35 year old male named Ryan, who has tried many times to find that perfect farmstead to be part of for the long term. Without slowing I continue on my search unabated.

I am looking to stay in the Cascades or Coastal ranges of Oregon but may consider rural areas in the PNW region. I will consider new build and existing farmsteads. I am looking for a live-on-site position. Hammock and compost toilet works for me. A cob or hobbit house is cool too. I do not require electical connection but wifi is nice. I would like $400+ a month but am flexible for the first month or two to show my worth and commitment or if meals are provided.

I am able bodied, enjoy working with my hands, a self starter and able to communicate ideas as well as listen and take direction.

I have had large backyard gardens, worked on private family farms, as well, I worked in many climates and with a few methodologies including aqua, hydro, raised bed, spaghetti and no dig, for about 8years. Plus I grew up tossing hay and manure in NY.

I am easy going and courteous. I expect to learn each day.

I have no debts or criminal record. I have no kids, drama or pets at this time.
