Hello, all. Back on August 15, there was a "Tree School" in Spokane, WA. Two of the classes that I attended, that were of special interest to me were the Silvopasture class, and the permaculture class...the first discussing the second, influencing my desire to take the other. I attended the "tree school," after a suggestion by the Spokane County Conservation District, while also exploring the "vets on the farm" program.
Currently, my wife an I live on Mt. Spokane, care taking a property of one of her grandparents. The place has had years of neglect...a nearly 100% "fixer upper." It's about 20 Acres, and I most love the quiet...not being woken up at 2am by people racing by in their cars, blasting "music," ...or gun fire.
I'm reaching out on the forum, here, to network, maybe find a guide/mentor. While my life's been "city boy," my wife's been "mountain girl;" I'm a slow convert!
I've already started to look at some of the resources from the classes, including this forum. I'm reaching out, to see if there are any military veterans in the area, in particular, to network with; of course, anyone who'd like to help would also be great. I'm also exploring Chapter 31: Vocational Rehabilitation for disabled vets, and the VA housing loan, as options to help get me started. Wondering if any vets have used one, or both, programs to help them get going.
While we do live in WA, and are exploring options to help the grandparents place on the mountain, and another set of grandparents a few miles off, we're also seriously looking at the options around northern Idaho, as well.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to hear from y'all!
