Is part 2 going to be released?  I see part 1 and part 3 in the feed, but not part 2.

Thanks!
I have about 40 lineal feet of 2'-3' diameter logs on my new property, and my first thought was "giant hugel!" But, if I were to use them for hugelkultur, would I want to cut them into 2' lengths and stand them upright for better wicking, or is just laying them flat fine?

I just found this thread, and the thought that came to mind was an iris door (which is what I think Ludger was talking about). This would require more space around the frame of the door (including beneath it, which might be a non-starter), but it's really cool. Here's a toy sample:

BTW - If you haven't seen them, the thing that gave me the idea was an expandable table, called a "Fletcher Capstan Table". Amazing bit of engineering!

Thanks, Paul!
I'm curious. As I go through old threads, I see posts by folks whose names have been greyed out. I'm guessing these are people who have quit, or been banned, etc.

The thing that makes me most curious, is that sometimes the number of posts by that person shows "0" (when obviously they made at least that one post), and sometimes it's a real number. So, what's the difference?

And while I'm asking, what are the likely causes of being banned? Are they all just violations of the "be nice" directive? None of the posts that I've seen from these folks has been obviously trollish.

...this stuff is TIMELESS, and since I'm working on a rainbarrel project at my J-O-B, I can finally spend some time poking around. NO surprise - I found ANSWERS!!!

I went to download it, and had problems with the link no longer working. After googling, it seems like it's moved here:

I just wanted to say that the thing that made me search for the "tinkering with this site" forum, was the lack of page navigation buttons at the bottom of the (old/classic) layout. It's been driving me crazy to have to scroll all the way back to the top to see the next page of posts.

I see that the beta site has the page nav at the bottom too. Yay! I'll be using the new layout from now on. (And may come back with further opinions. My initial reaction to the layout for each board is that it's really busy, but we'll see if I get used to it.)
Hi Folks-

I've been lurking here for a week or two, and soaking up permaculture books and podcasts for the last year or so.

My wife, Jen, and I are in the process of buying 4 acres South of Portland, and are looking forward to gradually transforming the land and our lives.

There's a lot to catch up on here, but I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions soon. Big thanks to Paul and all the staff for providing this venue!
