Those are good questions to ask, Bethany; thanks for bringing those considerations up. I think for any group of people considering living in community there are a lot of things to discuss. Sometimes you can hash it out and make it work, though! Especially if a few people have a similar vision for what they want, and are truly after a similar-enough thing when it turns from discussion to reality. Sorry that I end up saying everything twice. This is what happens when I don't have time to edit...

In sooo many ways, permaculture and Christianity are very compatible. And I've met many who don't identify as Christians who have totally outdone me in kindness and generosity. It isn't either of those kinds of things. What I was referencing relates to my guess/experience - that some things I've found I need in a happy home environment are like fresh air to most Christians I encounter, but can seem (understandably) very limiting to those who don't share those convictions. I don't want to limit anyone. I would not want my convictions to put pressure on the freedom of others when it comes to my vote on house guidelines. I know myself well enough to know what's in the range of healthy growth for me, and what is just 'the line' for me, on a few controversial topics (which I might expound upon in a PM, but I think posting publicly about much of it would just start some fruitless wars ).

I want respect others enough to not ask them to bend their 'unbendables' - or cater to mine if it is limiting for them. I also want to respect myself enough to allow myself to Have some unbendables and not feel guilty about having them if I have found them to be healthy for me. While I *absolutely* believe in compromise and middle ground when it comes to things like dishes, chores, quiet hours (or not!), I don't think 'compromise' is a sustainable answer when it comes to spiritual convictions, and I don't want to ask of others that kind of compromise. Let's live where we can be our freest selves, and then come together regularly for really amazing potlucks!

Hey Zachary, how is your search going? I think I'm a little out of your age range, but I am interested in connecting Christian permaculture people. There are lots of flavors of Christian, but just for info's sake (like, "do I even want to network with this person?" ) mine is that I believe the Bible is true and Jesus is God. I get why people would choose to be pro-choice, but I believe a baby is a human life at conception, so I'm pro-life, too. Let's see, what else.. I do believe in hell, but since I believe it's not my job to decide if anybody goes there, I choose to focus on loving people into being more open to Heaven. Ok, that's enough for now. I notice there are a lot of posts here from amazing single women in their 30s and beyond! And a few in the MO area, like me.

I heard about a project in San Francisco (now defunct I think) where single ladies who wanted to live off the grid chose to live in community, and do the stuff to make it happen! Is anybody out there potentially interested in doing something like that?

I may not be the best candidate b/c I'm all Christian and stuff, so I have weird things I'm picky about that many permies are not picky about, but starting dialogue is always good. Even if this question gets others into a good community, I would be very happy about that.

Hi Everyone! I'm new here; been a vegetable gardener for years, and generous people have let me help with their animals here and there, but I really don't know much at all. I just know that I love permaculture and would like to learn more. I currently live in south KC near Grandview, renting in a suburban neighborhood from friends who are missionaries in Uganda. Since they are doing gardening, fruit trees and animals over there, they are letting me do vegetables & plant fruit trees in their yard, but that's as far as I've gotten on my own. Good to find ya!
