Much appreciated! Yeah, I definitely forgot to include that information in the first post. I'm in Missouri and it's mostly clay. Most of the areas I'm planting have been worked within the last couple years. They've all at least had several inches of compost and woodchips on top of them for a year. I'll be planting annual vegetables from starts round and about the space too.

Excellent suggestions! I'll add mustard to the list. I was unsure about basil being used this way, so I'm glad to hear it's worked for you.

Come to think of it, dill has always done well sprouting the next season after I've let it go to seed, so i'll be adding that to the list as well.

Hey all,

Last season I cleared a decent amount of garden space on the perimeter of my urban lot, constructed a hugelkultur bed and planted several bare root fruit trees and berry bushes. This season I want to focus on creating a nice herbaceous layer in said area for yield as well as attracting pollinators. Since there's a decent amount of ground to cover, I was thinking seed balls or just scattering seeds about. Could anyone guide me as to what seeds to look for?

So far I was thinking:
Echinecea
Borage
Clover (Dutch or red)
Vetch (hairy)
Feverfew
cilantro
Daikon Radish
Mint
Oregano
Chamomile
Peas
Basil
Salvia
Parsley

Some of the space is underneath a large oak tree so partial to full shade plants are welcome.

Please let me know if I should add or remove anything from this list, as well as things to consider when making seed balls vs scattering the seed about!
