I usually plant the big fava beans every year and they overwinter in my climate and produce flowers and fruit in the spring. If its a dry spring they suffer.
This year I'm going to try and create a grand mix of seeds.
I will add nasturtium, oats, calendula, peas, chick peas, poppies, clover and any other seeds I can get my hands on.
I am hoping that the variety of root depths will help keep them growing the spring is dry.

Hello I would be very interested in reading your berry book. Berries are amazing. I live on the island of Crete in Greece. Though I am not sure that they would thrive here. I would like to know if your book would give me the information of which berries would grow well in this part of the world. Thank you

Dear Kostas,
after posting I happily realised that this thread is much longer and fresher than I first thought so please forgive me if I have asked questions that have already been answered.
Another plant I am interested in planting us the pomegranate and fig. Is it possible to grow them from seed?
Thank you

Hello Kostandinos I am of my way to Crete to create a spot of Paradise. I have collected almonds from a tree in Pendeli and plan on collecting apricot, plum and nectarine stones. Should I first cracking the stones? Do I need to stratify them first? I also am dreaming/planing to green the adjacent barren mountain slopes that belong to the church. It will be difficult to water these. What do you suggest. As it's been a while since this thread was first posted I would love to hear of your successes and failures and everybody else on this thread. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much Dale for your reply.
I am so happy for your answers.
It's such a good feeling to know that when my hands get into the soil there will be so much support from all you amazing people to my potential queries.

Hello everyone,
my name is Anastasia and I have been reading and gaining so much knowledge from this amazing site.
My aim is to go and create a homestead in the near future in Crete Greece.
I would please like to ask if somebody knows if olive tree wood, branches and leaves are good for hugal cultures or compost.
As this kind of wood especially branches and leaves are easily collected for free.
Another question I have is ...should seaweed have its surface salt rinsed off?
And the seaweed that is readily available there is very papery thin and dry and brownish colour.
Would this type of seaweed enrich the soil?
Thank you
Love Anastasia
