Hi, Im in the same boat as you in a sense, about a year or two away from making the off grid jump. Have enough funds now to get started if I wanted to, but a little more time spent saving and will be in great shape.
Until then, remain in research/planning mode. Have mostly mapped out on paper what needs to happen. I'm male mid 30s, based out of Colorado, shopping for land right now, looking rocky mountain region mostly, also some intermountain areas. Should have something by next summer.
More into the building aspect of off grid living, than the permaculture side. I think its possible to get research overkill on some of these topics. Dont let all the reading crowd out your own ideas.
