I'm new to this site and I'm trying to get ideas of food you can plant in between standing 20 yr timber for emergency food survival.

My family had 300 acres timberland with a cabin and three natural springs. I would like to set this up as a "bug out" location. I would like to plant some foods to forget about and let grow wild for as long as it takes.

Other than fruit trees, what are some thoughts on foods that could survive and thrive? Potatoes? Rhubarb? There are very few open spots. Most areas are timber rows that were thinned 2 years ago.

The area is in southern Tennessee, so the temperature is moderate. Also, we have wild hogs, deer and wild turkeys. I wouldn't mind them using it as a food source until it is needed by humans. Also, would the wild hogs root up all the potatoes, sweet or otherwise.
