Thank you for your reply. I was thinking about the decomposition, but not about the rodents. I won't do anything with the beds until it is completely built with a door. And hardware wire on the bottoms...I am already seeing vole destruction.

I am in the process of erecting my geodesic dome greenhouse and it will have raised beds about 30" tall. I live in Colorado at 8300' and with the greenhouse and it's above ground pond, I am able to grow almost 365 days. I am forming my beds, and I came across the hugelkultur which totally made sense to me. If I have walls that form my raised beds, will the hugelkultur work?
