I've been a clay artist all my life but I've earned my living by giving English classes thru skype. I want to phase that out and become a professional rocket mass heater designer and builder. I mostly live in Malaga, Spain and spend a few months per year in the USA. Now I'm working my way down the eastern states from Penn. to North Carolina.

Thanks for your answer Dustin. It seems strange to have to fight so hard for something that has been done for such a long time. I’m also researching other parts of Europe. I recently spent time in Morocco, which is beautiful, in part because of all the building done with clay, fibers, lime and all the other natural materials used forever, and still.

I have lived in Spain most of my life. There is currently a growing movement to build with natural materials, which isn’t actually much of a novelty since that’s the way most houses were built less than 50 years ago. The problem is that now, tradiitional building isn’t contemplated in the building codes. I know many people in other countries have faced a similar situation and in some places have managed to have the codes changed or have figured out ways for their natural building methods to be up to code. I want to document the ways in which this has been done. If anyone would like to share their experience, I’m sure it would be helpful for us.
Thanks

Hi, I'll be in Philadelphia till Feb. 21 doing a house-sit, which means taking a doggie out for a walk a few times a day. It also means I have most of the rest of the day free, especially from Thursday to Sunday. I took a batch box workshop in Madrid, built the burn chamber for my first rocket stove out in my garden as a part of my cob "fun area" which will include a wall with a warm seat, two rocket stoves, one of which will heat the tub and the other the seat and both will cook. Then I  took a plane to the US before starting on the mass part of the heater. I've been working with clay all my life, have been learning to work with cob, straw bale, natural plasters, tadelakt and rocket stoves for the past two years. I'd love to help someone with their rocket stove here in Phila. and also offer my creative and design skills.
