Imagine a world where all people are empowered not only to dream their homes into existence, but are actually able to independently create that vision. Imagine that your home can be harvested from nature and without toxic inputs!

In this 4-day workshop, you will work in and around a full-sized cob structure in progress, with a chance to explore advanced cob construction in three dimensions and to apply your own curiosity and inquiries to what happens next. Hands-on learning will focus on: roof construction and attachment to cob walls, trouble-shooting and repair of cob and bale-cob construction, preparation and application of basic earthen plaster and natural paint finishes, and may include making and installing an arched wooden door. Other topics to be discussed in detail and in context of full-scale cob house construction include foundation work with natural stone, installing earthen floors, making wall openings such as windows and doors, supporting cob above windows and doors, and ways of making cob arches and columns.

Our project is “Grandma’s Shoe House.” YES, it is shaped like a shoe! Ultimately, the Shoe House will serve as a children’s play area, a meditation space, and a place to gather in circle. More info at www.goldenrocksfarm.com.

Be Part of the Movement: Rebuild Lake County!
We've got plans for a cute little dwelling designed by a high-end New York Architecture Firm. It is an award-winning emergency shelter, just under 200 sq ft total. The unit is very functional, with living and kitchen space, a small bathroom and a sleeping loft! Both front and rear entrances come with some outdoor living space as well.

Our Workshop leaders will be guiding us through the basic building concepts for temporary and permanent applications, and we will be continuing to work on the entire structure, floor thru roof in the 4-day workshop. Our focus is to learn about utilizing materials from the waste stream and building with natural, toxin-free materials to infill pallets and create a warm, cozy shelter. Ultimately, our pallet house will be used as commercial herb-drying shed here at Golden Rocks Permaculture farm.

With core support from carpenter Dustin Daggs, teachers include Harbinite Davel (or Dave L.), and resident cobber Brenda Quintero, with much assistance from farm staff Steve, Becca, Jake and Monica throughout the weekend.

Families welcome! Attendees under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost for the full 4-day workshop is $195 and includes lunch daily and onsite camping at beautiful Golden Rocks Permaculture Farm located in Middletown, Lake County, CA.
