Yes I am keen to get rid of them as I want the kids to play and enjoy themselves without getting stung. The more they can play, the more gardening I can do!

Such useful advice, thanks so much! I have chopped some for liquid fertiliser already. I can cover some but they are sporadic across my new allotment so it will be a bit more tricky.

Hi I'm in the UK, southeast. The soil is quite good I think, though I don't have a lot of experience describing soil. It's not chalky, clay or sandy. The roots of the nettles are something else, they were there for a long time before I got the allotment. I'm going down there at the weekend so I'll take a photo then.

What is your advice for dealing with couch grass and nettles? My allotment has a lot of both of them!
