I am planning to start colony raising rabbits in arks, giving them a minimum of 20 sq. feet per rabbit. I am looking for ideas although I think I will go with this design.

(Sorry don't know how to attach photos yet!!)
Can I use the same 1" square wire on the bottom as on the top or will it crush the grass and hurt their feet even if it is flush with the ground? I am using wire on the bottom as a lot of our land is uneven and I think we might have weasels or maybe Mink as one of our Jersey Giant chickens was taken by one!
Any help VERY useful!!

I am planning on starting a free range colony tractor meat rabbit set up (bit of a mouthful) and am thinking about using NZW does and possibly a heritage breed buck, I was thinking that the buck would provide some disease resistance, foraging capabilities and possibly some "hybrid vigour" to the kits. They may not grow as fast but intensive and quantity is less important than it being sustainable. Is this actually going to do anything by using an old breed of buck or would the effects be minimal or nothing. I was looking for silver foxes but they are a bit hard to find now as the only breeder anywhere near us stopped breeding them, so I was going to use a Harlequin buck. I haven't seen any/many people using Harlequins so was wondering if they are good for meat even though they have been bred for pets rather than meat. Any help would be VERY useful!

I live on a 600 acre organic hill lamb, hogget and mutton farm in Wales and am looking at getting some meat rabbits. I plan on raising them in a colony tractor. The tractor is going to be triangular prism shaped and have wire on all sides and the floor to prevent burrowing and escaping as most of our ground is uneven. My question is, is it okay to use the same wire for the sides as the floor? I am going to use galvanised wire mesh (not chicken wire) and the spacing is going to be about 1" sq. to prevent the baby's escaping as I heard any larger and they will just walk out. Will the wire crush the grass stopping the rabbits from eating it? And will it hurt their feet even if it is flush to the ground?
