Well here in Central Indiana we've had some freezing nights and noticed yesterday that a lot of my asparagus have been damage by it. So my question is would it be wise to just mow off what is up so I know what is the fresh ones, since we are early in the season i was thinking I would be okay in doing so! Hope all is doing well in this troubling times.
I have new asparagus from hybrid asparagus all over my back to eden garden, since these are from a hybrid variety will they amount to anything?
This spring I planted one year old crowns, now after I clear off the patch I want to cover with at least 3 inches of wood chips. I'm hoping to slow the weed growth and add value to the asparagus, does anyone see any issues with this? If I could do one better could I layer paper and 3-4 inches of wood chips, I hate weeding, but still have the asparagus come up through this all.

Can I compost walnut shavings and have no ill effect on my garden, looks to be a mixed bag of answers on the net. My thinking is to utilize this carbon, but compost it longer and isolate the usage and just see the results.

Thanks for the info, I will try laying them down over winter. I'm so glad I came across this site, so much knowledge and information to read through.
Hello, I planted Prime Ark Freedom Blackberries couple years ago, we are getting great berries on the Primacanes, but after winter here in central Indiana I'm not getting any Floracanes to produce 2nd year berries. Would these wintering canes freeze out??
