Just a thought. If you don't have neighbors willing another option might be to get in touch with your local 4-H. They may have a group that has older teens interested in animals, you could offer to "show them how your homestead works" and even have them come help out once a month or so with "farm chores" There might be one in the bunch who would be willing to learn more from you and be on call to stop over when you are away to care for the animals. Just an idea, could benefit the local youth as well as you down the road.

Thank you for your answer Peter. My Mommy brain got to me when I posted the original question. I've adjusted my question to what I actually meant to say and ask. Haha. You may have answered my question anyway. So separating the urine from the feces is so it is not too wet? And the urine can be used immediately but the feces needs to break down? Is that correct?

Okay, so I've been researching composting toilets for quite a while now and despite looking for answers to a specific question, I am still quite confused. Can anyone tell me why some articles, how to guides, books etc compost both feces and urine together and some separate out the urine? Also, I understand that feces is more likely to contain bacteria, germs and such is this only a concern if using the compost for edibles?

Searching for WOOFING opportunities but cannot locate any that would allow our family. We are a "Large" family with multiple small-ish children. We would love to help with cob or natural building projects (we dream of one day buying property and building a cob and/or strawbale home), gardening, helping with farm animals, etc etc. I (Mom-Kaleena) don't mind getting dirty or digging in to help with any project. My husband is a bit more of a private loner but also doesn't mind pitching in when needed. Our oldest child (teen boy) could be a great help. We are eclectic homeschoolers/ Semi-Unschoolers and could stay long or short term. Open to any and all possibilities.

What a beautiful property. What area of Kentucky is this? I am searching for land to buy to start our off-grid family homestead (We are a LARGE family with small children looking for a better way of life) in Kentucky but sadly, I am looking for a land contract or lease/owner financing otherwise I'd make you an offer.
Hi, possibly interested. You have any families with small children there? Any opposition to large families?

This is exactly what I am looking for, unfortunately most will not even consider having me because I would be bringing a family along with me (a rather large family). I am well read in many areas of homesteading, as well as growing herbs and herbal medicine but sadly, besides my own small garden, I have no other hands on experience because I cannot seem to find a working farm or homestead willing to give me (and my family) an opportunity to learn.
