We want to use cob over the straw bale walls.  Would that work well in central AZ?  It will be in Yavapai County.  Thank you!

Hello Jim and Bob!

I'd like to know more about considerations that should be taken when using cob over the straw bale walls?  We will be building in the Verde Valley of Arizona, in Yavapai County.  I would imagine that there are some people in that county that have straw bale homes, as there are so many alternative minded people in the Sedona area.  I understand that many people use plaster over the straw bales.  I'm not sure about the process of the finishing work, but I do know that we would like cob for many reasons.  We hope we can make it work.

I look forward to reading all of the great questions and replies that will unfold over the next few days.  I didn't know that this forum existed until today!  So glad to find it!

Blessings!

Welcome!  I'm so excited to read these threads, as we are planning to build a straw bale home in AZ, finished with cob....we hope.

Thank you for taking the time to do this!

Is there any new news on this subject?  We live in S. Florida, and want to build and accessory building with cob....to live in.  Before I go trying to ask the city if they allow it, and likely will have to approach it with some delicacy, I am hoping that there are others who already have had experience with this so we can get some pointers.  Thank you!

I'd like to know how this turned out for you.  We have land in Rimrock, (Yavapai Cnty) and are considering either super or hyper adobe, or cob.  Did you have any issues with building with earth?  Thank you!

Hello!

I'm new to the forums, here, and have been perusing many topics.  Looks like a great place to hang out with like-minded folks.  Happy to be here!

Five weeks ago, I put some mulberry cuttings that someone gave me, into a a pot of basic (non-feriilized) soil, that had some perlite in it.  Three cuttings have roots out of six that I had put in there, and two of the three cuttings have tiny green buds growing on the nodes.

The man who gave them to me told me not to put them in the sun for about a month.  Yesterday, I put one of them into it's new place in the yard, on the southwest corner of the house.  (We live in zone 10B, S. Florida).  Now I question my decision to do that.  Is it too soon to transplant to the yard, into the sun?  They had been acclimating to the morning sun on the east side of the house for a week.

I'm so new to doing this, I wasn't even sure that I would get roots on the cuttings, but am thrilled that I got some of them to root.

Most websites on the net will tell you how to get the cuttings to root, but don't tell much about what to do while it is rooting or when to transplant.  Any good advice will be appreciated on how to care for these newly rooted mulberry cuttings.

We have tree collard cuttings on the way, via mail order.  Hoping to be successful with those, too.

Thank you in advance!
