Hello! I am planning on putting around 12 chickens into an area to prepare it for a garden. Can I just keep them in say a 20x20 foot area for a few weeks until they clear the weeds and what not then plant directly into that ground once I move them after broadforking the soil? Or should I add compost then plant? Just wondering how much more preparation I need to do after the chickens...or if their tilling, scratching, and pooping will be enough. Also is this okay to do in spring? Or do I need to wait a while before planting? Thanks!

Hello! My girlfriend and I are looking to work on a permaculture farm in the Portland area. We currently live in Northern California and are working full time to save money to move to Portland. We feel Portland is an area that has more opportunities based around farming and homesteading. We are very hard workers and both have experience with farming and tending to animals. I started a small garden last year and she loves all animals and hopes to work with them full time. We want to get more involved with permaculture, farming, homesteading, etc and are looking for a farm that could accomodate us and our two well behaved dogs. A small stipend would be greatly appreciated and between the two of us we should be able to put in 40 hours of work a week.
