All the cutting should not kill the parent tree and all varieties turned into cuttings should be from your property or very close to it you should definitely not spend any money just labor on a living fence.

Here on my property in Port Angeles Washington in the Pacific Northwest I am using live stake planted lattice shape grafted trees to fence and cross fence my 10 acres. I am using willow, elderberry, Alder, and Maple. Alder goes on the driest sections of my land which I'll be it is a pretty moist climate 2 miles at best from The Straits. Maple goes in the most places that get good son and Willow goes in the very moist places. Since my backyard backs up to Highway 101 there is a 50-foot Forest buffer to the south of my property at the top of a hill and inside that Forest buffer I am using elderberry since it grows great with almost no sunlight. I will begin construction of the fence this November as the dormant season is the best time to plant live Stakes. I have made test rows of all of the varieties of trees I intend to use and it took about three to five weeks for all of them to start growing leaps I planted them early July. For the perimeter fencing I find it best to use 9 foot or better steaks so when I walk away and come back in the spring it will be a finished established animal proof fence.

My wife, 10 month old son, and I just moved to 10 acres in Lower Elwha area of Port Angeles. There are so many projects I want to get going on but need a hand. I am hoping to find people interested in some projects that could benefit us both weather here at our farm or elsewhere. I have a bunch of farming, building, electrical, plumbing, and automation experience and have a super broad range of interest in the farming for profit and ecological restoration categories. I am home watching my son and farming full time.
