We recently aquired two Jersey cows who will calf in a couple of weeks. Our plan is to share milk with the calves and milk them after separating them for 12 hours. We do not have a barn and are rotationally grazing them using poly wire. I am building a portable stancion to milk them in the field but am having trouble figuring out how to separate the calves at night.
I was thinking about using zip ties and cattle panels to create a portable pen for the calves but don’t know if that will be sturdy enough or how to get them in while keeping the cows out.
Any suggestions?
