Hello everyone, I have a bamboo plant that I have always grown for decorative purposes, but last season I decided to cut some of its shoots to eat. I'm not good at cooking, but I was going to invent something with them.

I cooked a soup and also used them for a salad, but the problem did not come from my lack of knowledge in the kitchen. But after cutting the shoots, the leaves of my plant began to take on a yellowish hue.

Over the weeks he returned to normal and today he is completely healthy. Does the harvest of shoots produce any type of stress to the plant?

I read several articles on the subject (I leave some here) and none of them talk about this.

- How to grow bamboo shoots to eat
- How to grow edible bamboo shoots
- Bamboo Harvest

Has something similar happened to anyone? or it was just a coincidence, and that yellowing of the leaves was due to another cause.

Thanks in advance, I read them.

Hi there!

As for the issue they raise, it should be clarified that not all fruit trees support the arching of their branches in the same way with the use of wire or some element.

In my case I live in a house where there have always been fruit trees, I see my father working on them every day. I have seen that he practices this method of arching branches in fig trees and apple trees. I also try peaches, but with results not as satisfying as in fig and manazanos.

Then there is the case of vine-type fruit trees, which must be assembled to form them during pruning, for example at home there are vineyards and passion fruits (I have them formed as indicated by this passion fruit pruning article in section 4.3). Although they are different cases, if you think about it it is not so different. And why do I say this? Because I have seen apple trees formed with structures with wire type vineyard and I have also seen them with their branches arched with wire, and the productive results are similar.
