I've been using wood chips in the garden for quite some time with great success. Recently, after reading more about the science behind "Back to Eden", I thought about using the wood chips to make my lawn. I live at the base of a mountain where our soil is very sandy, silty, and rocky. The bigger issue I think is it is HARD. I have patches of grass throughout the yard but it is mostly made up of dirt and weeds. Wood chips are abundant and I have a wood chipper with forest acreage to make more. My question is this: can I spread a layer of wood chips on the whole yard to promote grass growth and stunt the weeds? How deep should it be? Should I add grass seed?
