Hi everyone, I have been reading Permies for a while and am new to posting, so hello, greetings from Israel
Anybody have experience with Almonds? Im considering an Almond orchard with integrated crops an herbs in food forest fashion and I am thinking about how the ease of almond harvest on a small commercial orchard level would look like.
Hand harvest? Machine harvest?
If I left space between trees for a tractor to drive through and have non fragile plants around the trunk I was thinking that machine harvest could still be possible (depends on machinery)
If I left more space between the trunk and herb layers (or if the herb layers were not so intruding), there would be space to lay out a fabric to collect the hand-raked nuts. I know olives are done this way and I was assumed almonds are similar.
Or does it make more sense to grow a fruit that is easier to harvest. e.g Pomegranate, Citrus, Avocado
