Thanks Thomas. I don’t really need food safe sealer as we only use the kettle to add humidity to the room when the fire heater is going.
I checked out the epoxy but it sounds like it is more costly than I want.
I will keep looking.

This is not actually a query pertaining to using water glass in creating a rocket stove but rather about sealing the base of an old aluminium kettle which is leaking (belonged to SWMBO’s gran).
Does anyone know if a layer of water glass poured in the kettle will cure when put onto a wood stove without water in it and when/if cured, will it stay in tact when water is added or will it dissolve?

I want to try making a cast heat riser in 3 sections using kaolin clay & perlite as I have both on hand. I plan on using 1 part clay to 4 parts perlite. Is it necessary to put any reinforcing ( E.g. wire netting) in the clay/perlite mix to prevent cracking?
