Hello! I am just about ready to close on a 7-acre property in Loganville, GA.
I’m taking a PDC course by Matt Powers (excellent stuff) and have scheduled a permiculture consultation with Shades of Green Permiculture for August 3rd.
Been dreaming of this for a long time.
My experience is in managing and training alpacas and some basic pasture maintenance, chickens, guinea hens and ducks.
The property has a grove of pecan trees, 2 very large producing pear trees, 35-year old muscadine and blueberry plants, gigantic fig trees, three varieties of apple trees newly planted by previous owner, two plum trees, A paw paw tree, a peach tree and a one-acre pond so overgrown with black willow and lily pads it can hardly be seen - however it is stocked with 500 bass, several hundred bluegill and bream. And hundreds upon hundreds of loblolly pines, walnut and other trees I haven’t tried to id yet.
It is truly overgrown and has not been cared for for a very long time, but there is so much potential.
There are 6 fenced in pasture areas That have been used for horses. I plan to use one area initially for a few goats and another area for a few pigs. Mostly, I think I’ll apply mulch over most of the Hard pan areas and let it rest until next year to recover from the removal of all the trees in those areas and the horses being brought in - it’s pretty hard and dry now.
I’ve got my work cut out for me, but that’s half the fun of it! It will bring my family together and be a deeply welcoming place for the community.
I’m an aerial photographer and took some photos on a recent flight. I’ve included one below.
Looking forward to getting to know other permies in my area!
