I live in Southwest Georgia, USA near the city of Americus, Ga. I received two Hazelnut(Filberts) from Arbor Day about 8 yrs ago. The trees have slowly grown to about 8ft tall with many suckers. One plant has grown nearly twice the size as the other of about 5ft tall. They are about 30ft apart, both are fertilizer and watered well. The larger tree produces a lot of pollen pods in the late winter and early spring. It also produces a lot of nut clusters, but they are small and EMPTY. The smaller tree produces not as many pollen pods (comparatively to the other tree) and the nut clusters are much larger, but EMPTY. I do not have squirrels in the area and the crows and other large birds is not a problem, either.
If pollination is a problem, how do I manually pollinate?
