Hey, I'm on the Olympic peninsula. This is our profile on ic-
https://www.ic.org/directory/rainforest-commons/
We are looking for members. We aren't solely BIPOC, but we are explicitly anti-racist and passionate about decolonization.

Hi there,
I'm part of this intentional community in Washington state. We are currently looking for new members, especially a family to join us. We are unschooling as well! We are in the rainforest so I thought that might be helpful for your partners heatstroke/ sun intolerance. Check us out and send us an email if you want to talk about possibilities.

John Bartlett wrote:Hi. I live in Western Washington and have a few questions about your community.

Who owns the land?
What does “not able to be in the same Covid pod”, mean?
Was it an amicable separation?
What does “the common holding of income“, mean? I saw it on your website. I’ve never heard the term.
Thanks!

Hello, thanks for your questions. The other community members who are not in our pod are still in the community, living here amicably.
They aren't able to take as many Covid precautions as my partner and I, and we have a little baby, so by "not in the same Covid pod" I mean that we aren't sharing indoor spaces, unless masked. It's challenging and sad and lonely.
We are in the process of forming a land owners co-op, and the land will be owned by the co-op, and some community members (whoever wants to) will own the co-op. Currently just one member owns the land.
We don't hold income in common. We holdva lot of expenses in common. Did you see the phrase about holding income in common on our IC profile?
Thanks,

Reaching out on behalf of the Rainforest Commons, an intentional community on the Olympic Peninsula, cause my partner and I love it here.
Here's our IC page-
https://www.ic.org/directory/rainforest-commons/

We think this 10 year old intentional community is incredibly special, and where we want to be, AND we are not getting all our needs for community interdependence met. We have some incredible folks out here in the community, and we are unfortunately not able to be in the same Covid pod. In addition. We are looking for folks we share deep affinity with.
We are seeking your support in finding our pod.

If you know anyone who might be interested, could you reach out to them and help put us in touch?
Our email address is rainforestcommons@protonmail.com

We have thought a lot about what we are looking for in community members. These are our desires-

* At the bare minimum they need to be vaccinated and serious mask wearers.
* We would love for them to be a family with little ones. We would love for them to want to collectivize childcare with us. To make this work, if they are a smoker, we need them to be down to wash up after everytime they smoke, before potentially holding River.
* We want them to be down to share the kitchen with us, and at least the majority of dinners.
* We have 7 dogs living here. We do not want more dogs. We would love to have folks out who want to help with dog care.
* We would love for this person or people to be excited to help with building projects.
* We want them to be stoked about permaculture, and off grid living. It would be awesome if they were excited and/ or knowledgeable about food forestry, green energy, natural building, etc.
* We really miss having dairy goats, and we are looking for someone interested in collective dairy goat care.
* We are interested in this person/ these people being anarchist/ anti-authoritarian and anti- capitalist.

Other points if affinity include-
Herbalism, music making, crafting, food preservation, Nonviolent Communication, abolitionist organizing, rural organizing, transformative justice, and the Land Back movement.

Hi, thanks so much for your questions. I don't have a sketch, but I'm attaching a photo.
There are 4 concrete blocks, each is 9x9 inches on the bottom, and 12x12 inches at the base.
Floor is OSB, on 2x6 joists, and 2x4s frame the walls, which will be a little under 6 inches thick when they are done, if we stick with light clay straw.

On the two long walls the weight of the walls will be on the 6x10 beams directly. On the short walls their isn't a lip for the plaster at the base of the walls, so it will cling directly to the wall.

Hello, my partner and I are in the process of placing an order for Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL) to plaster the light clay straw walls on our tiny home frame. However, when we got our estimate for the NHL we realized we would need to use significantly more than we anticipated, and are now concerned that our frame won’t be able to hold the weight. The footprint of the house is 16x9x10, and sits on concrete pier blocks, below 10×6 wooden beams, connected with metal bolts. The frame itself is made up using 2×4’s, and has a loft and gabled roof. The walls are 10 ft tall.

We plan to apply a thicker coat of earthen plaster, followed by the NHL at 7/8ths of an inch.
Do you think our frame can hold the weight of the plaster?

Thanks!
