I've been actually PURPOSEFULLY LOOKING for clearcut blocks to buy and start a restoration project. It's actually been very hard to find where I live. In BC, Canada, most of the logging is done on crown land, which simply get replanted (but not recreated as forests) with only a few commercially valuable species, with low diversity, only to be mown down again in a few decades. So we've been looking at Nova Scotia where more logging is done on private land. So I think more of us should be buying up this land to restore if we can. I think it's totally antithetical to permaculture (and even ethics) to purchase an untouched ecosystem and then start taking down trees, even if it's for food growing. Sustainably managed forestry is one thing; clearing the land for access to sunshine does not seem justifiable given the many other possible places we can grow food.
