As a former wildland firefighter and someone who has spent years paying attention to the drought in the west, my best advice is to move east of the Rockies. The situation in the west is only going to continue to get worse.

John’s list is pretty good. Any and every kit should also include a tourniquet. At least in my experience as a combat veteran and fire fighter.

You could offer a chance to local falconers to hunt the land for rabbits. Contact your state falconry Association/club. It would be an opportunity for natural depridation on your land, and perhaps a chance to see birds of prey Up close and in person.

As it’s becoming increasingly difficult to meet anyone that isn’t obsessed with consumerism, consumption, material objects and notoriety, I’m going to see if maybe this will bring more prosperity in 2022.

My name is Cam. I am starting a new homestead on 21 acres in central Vermont. My best friend of 20 years and I will be running a farm, orchard, wedding venue and retreat center. Intentional community based. I will be relocating from the west coast, as It has become increasingly less sustainable over the years. Wildfires, drought, you name it. Ive been a wildland fire fighter for the past four years, and it has gotten worse every year. The majority of wildfires in drought continue to be west of the Rocky Mountains.


I’m looking for a partner that is really committed to  Homesteading and permaculture. I’m seeking to live a very minimalist lifestyle. Our entire venture will eventually be Off-grid and self sufficient. I am a Survivalist by nature. Veteran of the US Marine Corps, combat vet, weapons expert & at home in the great Outdoors. I’ve lived in cities with millions of people and small communities off the map. I much prefer quiet and solitude.

As someone who used to be a cog in the wheel of imperialism, decolonization of your mind is a requirement. We’re talking:

Land Back - Extinction Rebellion - Antifa

If that doesn’t resonate, I don’t think we will either.

I’m a well traveled Adventurer. A dedicated Buddhist and Yogi. I have spent most of my life as an Artist & Musician when not acting as a community organizer or SJ advocate. I went to college after the military as a physics major with a scholarship from NASA, but ultimately left academics due to unforeseen circumstances. I’m a jack-of-all-trades type of guy.

I’m currently raising my 2 young children from a previous marriage, but I am open to adding more to the brood. In that case it’s homeschooling and unschooling.

I’m also a licensed falconer and a bird enthusiast. I keep raptors, pigeons, waterfowl and exotics.
