I built a pizza oven a few years ago I used bricks in my mortar I added cat litter just like you I bought some cheap one but want I did I used an old blender and added the cat litter inside!
I had the blend working for about 30 seconds and the litter turned into powder just like flour.
Looks like it's working ok I had a couple of fine cracks but overall it's still in good condition
