hello, I am planting both a tan oak and a holly oak in a garden plot with various fruit trees pruned to stay small. I would like to harvest acorns, but am investigating coppicing or pollarding to harvest wood as well and keep the trees at manageable sizes. Also planted a Theta hazel and a Webster hazel, thinking along the same lines. So my big question is...does this work for nut harvests, or only for harvesting wood? Would coppicing or pollarding be appropriate in about a 3 year rotation? I know both Californian Tan oak and European Holly Oak are big trees, but I really want acorns (and filberts) and to keep them manageable for years (plus the Holly Oak is inoculated with black truffles, which I hope will spread to the Tan Oak planted nearby).
