While I don't live in the country I do have a little bit of this living in the city. I don't really have a whole lot of friends anymore not sure if I should count my husband! Most of the people I work with at my job are very self oriented and very attached to material things. The idea of preserving food or having a fruit tree Etc is not really in their orbit. Every Monday I get what did you do fun this weekend! If I told them I froze a bunch of food or was going through my pantry closet trying to decide what I need to stock up on because food prices in the US are skyrocketing oh, they'd think I was nuts. Their idea of something fun is just going out and buying a lot of stuff or driving 15 miles to go get a cup of coffee on their break. My husband and I both love gardening and permaculture and being a little bit more self-sufficient. So really most of my pals are online! I have a Blog little Homestead in Boise, and lot of blogs that are similar that I follow. I also follow a few people on YouTube. I definitely understand the concept of work parties but don't really have the background with that. We have at our kids occasionally help us with projects but not that much. Hang in there!

Great idea and it's cheap to! I buy so many thrifted and used eBay clothes are they almost always wind up with something stinky

I am scent sensitive so this is even worse for me. I have tried hot water (if fabric can tolerate) breaks down the stink better, soak in baking soda water in washer before washing, lots of Clorox 2 for stains seems to help, and air dry in the sun. Sometimes I hang in a spare bedroom for a week or 2. Not sure if dry cleaning would help? Helped with a wool sweater I had. Depends on the fabric.
