First where are you at you can dig up getting ad much as you can of the root ball then get as much extra soil that it was in so the plum tree or any fruit/nut tree does not go into shock. simple rule of thumb sap drops from wearily autumn to early winter/ middle winter this is moving time on these trees also if you want fruit cut in late winter before sap rises to early spring if you wait 2 weeks into spring it’s to late for cutting back plum trees to get new growth.  easy to follow
