Thanks for all the replies. I have been setting posts. 8ft post put 3ft in the ground with concrete. Tar on the bottom 4ft make it last a bit longer. If the goats escape this or destroy it after it's built I think I will just have to eat them... Lol.

Ty. Not trying to sound like an @$$  but at this point I've been saving to do this right so money is not an issue for this project. I am a fan of over egnineering. I don't have the time to do it 2ce so I need to do it right. I am just not sure which is the "better" or ,"correct " way.  I originally bought enough posts to go 8ft a part. Then  I read it's better to go 30-50ft a part with electric wire. So I drilled in 9 post for the moment. I have 4000ft of 12.5g wire, like 300 post line insulators and 30 tensioners.  No springs or setup for gates but I'll figure that as I go. If I need more tensioners I'll order. If repairing would be a pain on a single line I won't have the time to fix it. And these stubborn goats will deffinelty take advantage.

Hello all. I have been planning to put in an electric fence for my goats. I have set up a space 60' x 100' for their enclosure. I have 4 inch posts at all 4 corners and an additional post at 50' on the long sides and 30' on the short sides.  Here's the real question now. If I run 12.5g wire from the first post all the way around the other posts to the last post and use a tensioner will that work? Or I need to run a single line for each side with a tensioner.?

So wire from post 1 all the way around to 9 with a tensioner? Or post 1 to 2 with a tensioner then 2 to 4 with a tensioner and so on? Please let me know thank you. In-between post 9 and 1 is their barn so no wire will be there
