I moved from a Westcoast city into remote farm country 2 years ago. A local family started a group to explore the sustainability level of our area. It is bringing folks together with a purpose. Many small groups are forming around different focuses such as local food production, communication, alternative medicine, local politics and more. People pursue their priority interest. It's much easier to spend time when you know your sustainability will benefit. Plus it has led to several potlucks and many people visiting each others homes and sharing project work together. We have been meeting for 5 months and plan to continue. More and more folks show up every month. I don't know every one but I now have about a dozen people to be in touch with. I love how farm life keeps me focused on productivity and socializing together. Sharing a pot of tea and some really tasty food should always be a part of the plan in my opinion!
