Marty Mitchell wrote:Welcome aboard and...

Excellent first post!

I have lived in a few different areas of NC in my lifetime. The most recent one was Elizabeth City, NC. Just moved away about half a year ago... but just across the border in Chesapeake, VA.

All growing zones in your state should be very good for doing Permie work! You just have to make tweaks based on the details.

Best of luck on your path. Never forget to have fun and try new things along the way. It keeps the passion going and you will get much further.

Great advise.   Yes, it's a great area for permaculture.    The guy that's coming out did a lot of the planning at the Arboretum in Raleigh.   I could just tell him, make the arboretum in my backyard :)  I love going to the arboretum with my camera and to take in all the little habitats they have going on there.  A lot of creativity incorporated, too.     So excited.  I'm grateful we can get a consult and drawing.    Probably going to do most of the work ourselves but we need a little initial direction otherwise nothing will get started.   Have to embrace our shortcomings.   Hopefully, with added experience we'll gain more confidence.

When you are able please share some pictures of your new place. I love playing 'fantasy gardens' so do let us know how you get on.

I would LOVE to share and would love any garden inspiration.  TY

Spent a couple days reading the posts in this wonderful community and decided I wanted to be a part.

We just bought our house with bigger lot last year.   We had high expectations and took us a year.  Agent said it wasn't possible but it was.   Clean water, acre lot, no toxic industries around the property, no HOA.   So excited to get started on permaculture.  We've been studying it and dreaming about it since 2011 for sure.   Have a licensed permaculture design person coming out this Friday and we intend on following him around and absorbing every thing he says.   Did I already mention how excited we are?!

Look forward to sharing and growing with this community and learning lots from the more established permies.

What I can share about myself is that I've always been a nature girl and it has helped me throughout life learn so much.  This topic gets very deep which is why permaculture is so appealing.  I 'get it'.   Observing nature instills much wisdom about life.

I am also a writer, amateur photographer and artist.  Pretty sure nature had something to do with these interests as well.

I am a mom with 2 older boys, many animals and my husband that is equally as anchored to nature as I am.

Looking forward to connecting with you all.
