University of Idaho Organic Program is offering a one-week hands-on farm training program June 20-24, 2022 based in Moscow Idaho. The cost of the instructional program is $600. For those who register by May 1, 2022, the cost will be $500. Dormitory housing is available for an additional $32 per night. Participants who complete the week will receive a certificate of participation. For more information call 208-883-2267.
During the week, students will learn various topics for beginning and aspiring farmers including vegetable production, soil health, irrigation systems, holistic approaches to pest and weed management, small farm tools and machinery, farm planning, budgeting, and visits to several local organic farms. Mornings will be spent working on the farm. Afternoons will be spent in the classroom and on farm tours.
The main instructor is Alison Detjens. Alison has 14 years of farming experience and holds a M.S. in Agriculture from Washington State University. Alison’s interest is in promoting and teaching sustainability in agriculture using a systems thinking lens.
